Jim Maher Retirement "Roast" - April 8, 2002 Cafe Cordiale, Sherman Oaks In place of the normal ACCS Executive Board meeting, a "roast" was held in honor of our retiring ACCS Chaplain, Fr. Jim Maher. The gathering began at 7:00 PM, at the Cafe Cordiale located at 14015 Ventura Blvd. (between Van Nuys and Woodman). Dinner was a choice of Chicken Mediterranean, Beef (New York Steak) and a pasta dish. Each Council and Committee was requested to be prepared to present a "roast" in honor of Fr. Jim. Past Chaplains Frs. Norm and David, along with Dns. Wayne, Jim and Marv, plus Rev. Paul Clark were also invited. Straub, HM1 (SW/FMF), USN , served as volunteer Camp Medic on nine of the past 11 Annual Scout Retreats. We had wanted to recognize John at the Campfire at this past retreat, but he had to attend the deathbed of a very old and dear friend and could not participate in Retreat XIV – 2005. So on October 21, 2005, Jim Shivers and John Lorentz visited John at the Navy Recruiting Center in Thousand Oaks, his duty station for the past few years, and we presented him with a plaque and letter of appreciation. The plaque is engraved with his name and a short message of thanks from the CCSALA.
