Retreat Facilitator

It is that time of year that we are actively searching and training facilitators for the annual Catholic Scout Retreat.

The patron saint for this year's Retreat will be St. John Bosco(external link).

For your convenience, we will have three facilitator training sessions this year. Attendance at any one of these will prepare you to be a Retreat Facilitator.

We need approximately 50 trained facilitators for an expected attendance of 700 Scouts and Scouters. RSVP with Kathy Ellison for one of the training dates so we can plan materials for the sessions.

Religious Emblem Counselor

Please contact your CCSALA Council Chair for the name of a counselor in your area - or if you would like to volunteer to serve as a Religious Emblem Counselor for the Ad Altare Dei or Pope Pius XII programs.

If you're thinking of volunteering - please keep in mind the following minimum requirements:

  • You must be a Catholic in good standing
  • You must have a current BSA Youth Protection Training card (you can update online if you're currently registered with BSA - i.e. you'll need your registration number to do this)
  • You must attend a Counselor Training Session sponsored by the Catholic Scouting Committee, Archdiocese of Los Angeles
  • You should be a registered member of a BSA unit
  • Girl Scout, Campfire, etc. please contact Sharon Shellman for possibly different requirements

2008 Training Dates - Note: Although it is possible to be trained as a counselor/facilitator for both emblems on successive days at the same location, this is not a requirement. Prospective counselors and facilitors may attend any session that is convenient for them.

RSVP in advance with Jesse or Thelma Reeves (805-527-8356) to ensure that plenty of materials are prepared for all participants. PLEASE NOTE: If no one calls or sends an e-mail to confirm their attendance by the night before, the class will be cancelled.
