Catholic Committee on Scouting, Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CCSALA)
CCSALA is promoting the following awards and patch programs.
Chi Rho Recognition
The Catholic Committee on Scouting Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CCSALA) has designed and produced a new "Chi Rho" patch to recognize those scouts who complete all four Catholic religious emblem programs: Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, and Pope Pius XII.
Only a small percentage of Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle and an even smaller percentage of Catholic Scouts earn all four religious emblems.
In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, this award will be presented automatically to the Scout (free of charge) when verification of all the awards can be made. We will honor outisde requests from other Catholic Committees, but ask they accept the responsibility of verifying each Scout's awards.
The patch can be obtained for a cost $5.00, which includes shipping, by sending in the completed
order form.
The order form is designed to be filled-out within Microsoft Word.

National Catholic Committee on Scouting
The National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS) (external link) is promoting several award and patch programs, some of which are shown below.
Rosary Series
A beautiful 5 inch patch is available for each of the following five activities:
- Pray the Rosary
- Joyful Mysteries
- Luminous Mysteries
- Sorrowful Mysteries
- Glorious Mysteries.
The Rosary Series focuses on the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary and How to Pray the Rosary. This is an opportunity for youth and adults to learn more about their faith. All youths and adults can work on this activity and earn the patch. This activity can be worked on individually or as a group. It is not necessary to send the completed form.
Marian Series
The goal of this activity is to honor Mary, the Mother of God. The Church calendar for the United States includes nineteen different Marian feasts or commemorations. By focusing on these different Marian feasts, the activities and patches in this series will shed light on how and why the Church has honored the humble Virgin of Nazareth for more than 2,000 years.
American Saints Series
This religious activity honors those men and women who led heroic lives of faith. Their words, their deeds, and their devotion to prayer and to the sacraments, inspire all American Catholics. In the Church calendar for the United States, some have the rank of "Saint" and are venerated by the Universal Church. Some have the rank of "Blessed" and are venerated by the Local Church. Some have the rank of "Venerable" and, while on the way to becoming a "Saint", may be venerated by Catholics. Most of these men and women lived and worked in North America in what is now the United States. Some others never set foot in America, however they had a huge impact on the Catholic American landscape. All of them sought to follow Jesus.
The goal of this activity is to share the lives of several Saints so that the youth might relate to what these people have done and maybe look to these individuals as role models.
Moden Saints Series
This Series honors more contemporary men and women from around the globe that have had a profound impact on many. The goal of these activities is to share the lives of several saints so that the youth might relate to what these people have done and maybe look to these individuals as role models.
Faith Series
This series provides a group of activities to help youth and adults to learn more about the universal faith-based practices and traditions used in living the Catholic faith.
International Awareness
The International Catholic Conference of Scouting provides an opportunity for its members to meet together as friends in the Catholic Church. It links the Catholic Church and the Scouting Movement all over the world. It contributes to the complete education of young people through Scouting from the perspective of the Catholic faith. It develops and enhances the spiritual dimension of Scouting in the World Scout Movement.
The Pope appoints priests to work with the International Catholic Conference of Scouting as ecclesiastical assistants (chaplains). This recognition activity is an ongoing special project of the International Committee of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (USA). Proceeds will further the work of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting and help enable representation by NCCS chaplains at ICCS meetings and NCCS chaplain support at international scouting events.

Misc. Awards
The awards below are administered by other organizations.
Pope John Paul II - Defensor Vitae
The purpose of this program is to encourage people of all ages to search deeper into the roots of Pope John Paul II and to learn about him and his views, especially on Life. Most of the questions require discussion. The answers are not black and white, so it is recommended that participants research and formulate their answers with their own opinions and words, not just copying words from another source. Participants are encouraged to really learn about Pope John Paul II and to create their own image of him. This program should be light, yet serious, and it wants to be user-friendly for any family, Troop, Crew or other group in its endeavor to build camaraderie and a better understanding of the life of Pope John Paul II.
Keep the Lamp Burning
To earn this patch, Scouts and leaders will be asked to participate in the World Organization of Scouting Messengers of Peace program as they perform organized "Act of Mercy" community service projects. They must then register the act of mercy on the Messengers of Peace website, explain the history of the introduction of Scouting to Catholics, and learn and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
